Inhaling Barium can irritate the nose, throat and lungs. Very high exposure can cause Barium poisoning with symptoms of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, irregular heartbeat, muscle weakness, tremors, paralysis and even death. Barium may damage the kidneys. Barium is FLAMMABLE and REACTIVE and a DANGEROUS FIRE and EXPLOSION HAZARD.
Barium Chromate Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) Barium Chromate can have hazardous health effects in case of over exposures. It can cause damage to many human organs including kidney, lungs, blood, nervous system, liver and mucus membrane. One should take
Barium chloride dihydrate, reagent grade, ACS, ISO 13. Disposal considerations Product: There are no uniform EU Regulations for the disposal of chemicals or residues. Chemical residues generally count as special waste. The disposal of the latter is regulated in the EU member countries through corresponding laws and regulations.

Sources of barium. Barium is found naturally only in combination with other elements because of its high level of reactivity. Barium is most commonly found combined with sulfate and carbonate, but can also form compounds with hydroxide, chloride, nitrate, chlorate, and other negative ions. About 0.05 percent of Earth's crust is barium,
Barium Hydroxide and Ammonium Chloride. Solid ammonium chloride is mixed with solid hydrated barium hydroxide in a beaker to form Barium Chloride. Gaseous ammonia and Hydrogen Hydroxide (water) are the other products resulting from this endothermic reaction. The temperature drastically drops to approximately -20 C in this cool reaction.

Barium chloride is the inorganic compound with the formula Ba Cl 2. It is one of the most common water-soluble salts of barium. Like most other barium salts, it is white, toxic, and imparts a yellow-green coloration to a flame. It is also hygroscopic, converting first to the dihydrate BaCl 2 (H 2 O) 2. It has limited use in the laboratory and industry.
Inhalation: If heated, dust or fume may cause respiratory tract irritation. May be harmful if inhaled. Ammonium chloride fume may cause an asthma-like allergy. Future exposure may trigger asthma attacks with shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing, and chest tightness.

Determine the mass of an empty crucible or evaporating dish. Record the mass to the nearest 0.001 g. Add between 0.500 and 1.000 g of barium chloride hydrate to the crucible. Determine the mass of the crucible and salt. Record the mass. Place the crucible on a clay triangle, set up as shown by your instructor. Begin heating the sample slowly.
